Create A Reading Nook
By JBG Staff
Whether it’s a small corner in your bedroom, basement, family room, deck or front porch every woman needs a reading nook. You know the warm and cozy place you go to unwind and read your favorite books and magazines or simply take a grown up time out. For indoor reading nooks, be sure the walls are painted a tranquil color, like celery, butter cookie or ecru. These hues are easy on the eyes, but lend the flexibility to accessorize. It’s better to add a splash of bold color with art, than go crazy painting the walls colors you just might regret. Buy yourself a special, cushy chair, sprawling chaise or quaint love seat. If you feel sleepy after sitting in the chair for a few minutes, it’s probably the right one. If your nook has enough space, add an ottoman to really get some much needed rest. Chances are your reading nook will double as a place to go when you need a break from the stress of life. Lighting is also important for your reading nook, but it’s up to you to decide how bright you want it. The best lighting (whether it’s a lamp or ceiling light) will feature a dimmer so you can let it shine or turn it down to unwind when you are reading. A small side table with enough room to hold a cup of coffee, martini, a bottle of water and maybe even a bowl of popcorn is always a plus. There are table trays that can be tucked into a nearby closet until you need it. This could also double as a place to set your laptop if you get inspired to do a little work. Like babies have their blankees you need one too! There are gorgeous throws and quilts that can be found everywhere these days. Remember, the softer the better and fleece is never a bad idea because it’s always warm and fuzzy. Add your favorite family photos and autographed books you’ve collected to personalize your space and really make it your own.
